Furyk Foundation Charity Projects

Operation Shower

Operation Shower is an amazing organization that the Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation has worked with for 9 years. It is an opportunity for the foundation and all of our community to thank the military families for all of their sacrifices. To date, we have donated gifts and offered support to over 500 military moms through Operation Shower events held during THE PLAYERS. Through donations we are able to surprise each wife of a deployed soldier or active military mom. Some of the items we provide include car seats, strollers, diaper bags, as well as a new outfit and booties for their trip home. We are proud to support our military community!

Blessings In A Backpack

The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation has worked closely with Blessings in a Backpack for over 10 years, supplying meals each Friday for many students over the school year. Over 75,000 meals a year have been provided to students in Duval and St. John’s county schools through the First Coast Blessings in a Backpack program. The foundation has adopted schools in Duval County and provides funding for the children to receive meals every weekend. For just $100/child you can help to support the growing needs of food-insecure children in the Jacksonville area. For $10/child you can supply a holiday meal for a family.

Wolfson Children’s Hospital

The Community PedsCare Palliative & Hospice Care Endowment was established in 2015 by the Furyks. The endowment provides a permanent funding source to support palliative and hospice care at Wolfson Children’s, as well as other programs and services provided in the system of care for medically complex children. The endowment’s annual income funds inpatient palliative care and provides critical operating support for the Bower Lyman Center for Medically Complex Children at Wolfson Children’s, which serves as a medical home for babies, children and adolescents throughout our region who live with chronic, complex medical conditions, requiring ongoing care by several doctors and oftentimes specialized medical equipment.

Community PedsCare

The Foundation’s work with Community PedsCare spreads over the past 10 years and includes work with Halloween Doors ‘n More, These Kids Can Play and Community Hospice. We have supplied the salary for two Child Life specialists who not only care for children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions, but also provide comfort to children whose parents or grandparents are dealing with health complications or are in the Hospice program.

Monique Burr Foundation

‘Child Safety Matters’ is the motto that started the Monique Burr Foundation. The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation is proud to add this organization to our portfolio of supported charities making a difference in the lives of children. The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation has implemented the national bullying and child-abuse prevention program benefiting 9,000 students in St. Johns County public schools. Whether it is through the Night in the Village or at the Champions for Safety ProAm, we are pleased to support the Monique Burr Foundation.

MaliVai Washington Foundation

Mal Washington has been a leader in our community and a great role model for many of the kids in his program. The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation has been happy to support his efforts over the past 15 years by providing financial assistance, educational supplies and food/beverages for the holidays and specialty parties for this wonderful program. The Furyks have also been Holiday Angels over the years, providing gifts for the children and family members who do not have the financial resources to provide gifts for one another.

The First Tee

First Tee is a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, we create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do. For over 10 years, Jim Furyk has been an Ambassador and Honorary Board Member to First Tee – North Florida. The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation is happy to support by providing financial assistance, supplies, and advocacy of the organization. The Furyk’s and First Tee are truly “Building Game Changers” in the North Florida Community.

PGA Reach

Through the nine Ryder Cup teams that Jim played on and the additional team in which Jim was a vice Captain the PGA of America has helped The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation contribute to the PGA Reach program. The PGA REACH program seeks to create a culture of inclusiveness by communicating and demonstrating that golf is an affordable and accessible game for all abilities, ages and backgrounds.  Over $900,000 has been directed to these programs on behalf of Jim & Tabitha Furyk through their involvement with the PGA of America, Ryder Cup and PGA Championship over the years. The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation is  proud to be a part of an organization that introduces, supports, and grows the game of golf to include not only adult golf fans but extends to the youth participants of all ages.

Hope For The Holidays

Since 2011, the Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation has provided funding and products to pack over 10,000 holiday meals packed by family volunteers during this annual event and delivered to food-insecure families throughout St. Johns and Duval County. The children and families that are selected to receive these bags are recognized through the county as food-insecure and are part of the following programs: Blessings in a Backpack, the Malivai Washington Youth Foundation, Daniel Kids and more. The holiday meal includes a canned ham, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, chicken broth, stuffing, noodle-roni, rice-a-roni, quaker oatmeal, hot cocoa, candy canes, granola bars and more. For only $10/bag you can supply a holiday meal to a family.

Beaches Habitat for Humanity

The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation is thrilled to expand their charitable partners to include Habitat for Humanity. This is the first home the Foundation is sponsoring. The collaboration will include a home built to ADA standards for a single mother who has a child with Cerebral Palsy. The build will have a ceiling mounted tracking system that will allow the mother to more easily move the child to their bed, shower and throughout the house. The family is currently living with no ADA accommodations so this will be a huge improvement in their lives.

PGA Tour Wives Association

Tabitha has been a member and supporter of the PGA Tour Wives Association since 1996. The organization has given the wives an opportunity to make a difference in the cities that the PGA Tour visits each week. The PGA Tour Wives association not only provides financial contributions in these cities but also provides new homes, gardens, food or assistance in soup kitchens, classrooms and hospitals. The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation continues to work with the wives association to support groups like Blessings in a Backpack across the country or to help fund programs like These Kids Can Play or Operation Shower. The wives are dedicated volunteers and proud to be supporting the efforts of the PGA TOUR.

These Kids Can Play

These Kids Can Play is an event created in 2008 to provide children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions a safe environment to experience The Players Championship. Children from the Community Hospice program and Wolfson Children’s Hospital are invited to bring their families to meet the PGA Tour players and PGA Tour wives at the Stadium Village. The Jacksonville Zoo, Books-a-go-go, and Imagination Playground are among the vendors that help us prepare this magical event, and we are so proud of TIAA Bank and The Players Championship for sponsoring and donating to this worthy cause. After spending a morning filled with activities, crafts and introductions, the families are invited to walk the golf course and enjoy the golf at The Players!

Jacksonville Humane Society

The Jacksonville Humane Society is committed to finding loving homes for animals and educating the community on how to care for them. The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation has partnered with the Humane Society to expand their education programs for children in our community. Through this partnership we are providing field trips to Title 1 schools and camp scholarships for our charitable partners. This offers children an experience to learn about dogs, cats and helping pets in our community. We are proud to support the Jacksonville Humane Society in all they are doing to educate our youth and find forever homes for pets!

K9s United

K9s United is a nonprofit organization based in Jacksonville, Florida committed to supporting and honoring K9s who detect, protect and serve communities across the nation by giving them the necessary equipment and training, while also memorializing those who give the ultimate sacrifice.. Due to budgetary constraints, many law enforcement agencies do not have the funding to provide the vital resources needed including advanced training for officers and their K9 partners, essential equipment, first aid trauma kits, heat alarms and more.  Additionally, we successfully championed the “Fang Memorial Bill,” named after K9 Fang with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office who gave his life for his handler and community.

St. Johns Riverkeeper

St. Johns RIVERKEEPER is a non-profit watchdog organization dedicated to defending the St. Johns River and advocating for its protection. We are a member-supported group that serves as an educator, advocate, and trusted voice for the entire St. Johns River and its nearly 9,000 square miles of watershed. We play a critical role in advocating for protective policies and sensible solutions, raising awareness and educating youth, and activating the community to get involved and take action. St. Johns RIVERKEEPER is one of over 350 Waterkeeper-affiliated organizations around the world working to protect our planet’s most important waterways from pollution and other threats. The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation is excited to partner with the St. Johns RIVERKEEPER to raise awareness, educate the youth and involve the community to serve our waterways.

Family Links

Family Links is a child-and family-centered support program at Wolfson Children’s Hospital made possible by The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation, addressing health-related social conditions that impact the quality of children’s wellness. Where children live, play, and learn has a far greater influence on their long-term health outcomes than traditional medical care. For this reason, Family Links aims to assist families by identifying the social needs impacting their health, expanding access to community resources, and empowering family decision-making that leads to better health outcomes for children. From food insecurity, transportation, and housing/rent issues, to employment support, childcare, legal assistance and access to basic household goods and supplies, Family Links is here to address these crucial needs and promote our children’s health and well-being throughout the community.

Guardian ad Litem Foundation

The Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation is a proud partner of the Guardian ad Litem Foundation (GALF), providing much needed funds to support their mission. GALF serves the vulnerable youth in the Duval, Clay and Nassau counties. Their mission is dedicated to helping abused, neglected or abandoned children through support of the Guardian ad Litem Office. Programming and funds are used to benefit children directly in various ways, including providing Normalcy Programming, so that basic necessities are available to youth so that they can assimilate and thrive; the Recruitment, Retention and Awareness of Guardian Volunteers so more child abuse victims can be represented in court; and through The Empowerment Scholarship, which provides additional support to youth seeking to rise above their circumstances by furthering their secondary education.
