SPAR has teamed up with RouxArt on a special mosaic project to beautify and enhance the Springfield Dog Park. Dog agility equipment, repurposed from precast concrete pieces like culverts and tunnels, will be installed in the park. RouxArt will design a colorful mosaic that will be added to the structures.
As with our past partnership on the 2019 Sesquicentennial Mosaic, we’re excited to make this a community project that everyone can be involved in creating.
We’re hosting public participation days at the Springfield Dog Park located at 949 Hubbard Street during the month of June. All you need to do is show up and be ready to have fun! Special thanks to RouxArt for opening up their studio and helping coordinate this incredible project.
June's Workshop Days include:
Thursday, June 5th - 4 to 7 pm
Friday, June 10th - 4 to 7 pm
Wednesday, June 18th - 9 am to 12 pm
Friday, June 21st - 4 to 7 pm
We will also be hosting workshops taking place at RouxArt Studios during the month of May. Please head to the following link for those workshops here: https://www.facebook.com/events/735382430824626/735382434157959/
This project is funded in part from the award of a $5000 matching grant from the City of Jacksonville's Neighborhood Matching Grant program and from proceeds of the 2021 Jacksonville PorchFest. Every year a portion of Jax PorchFest proceeds provide funding for public art and activities in Historic Springfield. Past Jacksonville PorchFest funded projects include the newly painted crosswalks throughout the neighborhood, the “Welcome to Springfield” mural, the Giraffe sculpture in Klutho Park, the temporary installment of Sculpture Walk, and several other cultural initiatives.
