Ability Housing opened its doors in 1992 as a group home for six adults with development disabilities. Known then as Grove House of Jacksonville, the nonprofit saw a tremendous need for quality affordable housing and began to expand its efforts focusing on the needs of adults with disabilities.
In 2004, Ability Housing was approached by the local homeless coalition and several of its members and asked to expand its mission to create permanent housing solutions for homeless families and individuals.
Today, Ability Housing is the only nonprofit in Northeast Florida that focuses on the development and operation of quality affordable rental housing for individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness and adults with a disability.
