Sawgrass Country Club courses underwent a Master Golf Renovation project that began in May 2013. The renovation of the East nine and West nine was completed and the final South nine course was completed in the Fall of 2015. The East -West course formerly hosted The Players Championship tournament from 1977 to 1981 prior to the tournament moving to its present location.
The Sawgrass Country Club courses were renovated as part of the club's master plan to refurbish the golf course infrastructure. All the fairways, tees and bunkers are part of the renovation project. Substantial improvement work will be done on other areas of the golf course, including the bridges, drainage, cart paths, bulkheads and the irrigation system. The greens renovation is planned for the future.
"This commitment to our master plan demonstrates our dedication to providing an exceptional golf course that is considered among the best in Northeast Florida," said CW Cook, Sawgrass Country Club general manager. "We want Sawgrass Country Club to continue to be the first choice for those seeking the best private club experience and value in our area."
Sawgrass Country Club partnered with golf course architect Robert Walker as he designed and managed the project. Walker has vast experience in course design and project management. He was a protégé of Ed Seay, the original course architect from Arnold Palmer Design Company during the construction of the club's original East / West layout. MacCurrach Golf Construction was selected to complete the construction work on the initial West course project.
