bout Gamewell Tot Lot
The Gamewell Tot Lot is located in the Arlington Hills neighborhood of east Jacksonville, at the intersection of Terry Parker Drive and Gamewell Road. While the park takes its name from Gamewell Road, the other adjacent street is named for local philanthropist H. Terry Parker. After moving to Florida from the Savannah area in 1911, Mr. Parker later donated the land for Terry Parker Junior-Senior High School in Arlington. Following the opening of the Matthews Bridge in 1953, the development of Arlington increased dramatically. The park was created after developer Homer Philips dedicated the site to Duval County on a 1953 plat of Arlington Hills. He filed thirty plats of the subdivision by 1965. Known as Gamewell Park in 1965, the Duval County facility contained playground apparatus and a small basketball court. After consolidation in 1968, the City took over the park.
