About Melvin Park
Melvin Park is located in the Melvin Park subdivision of southwest Jacksonville, just west of Interstate 295 between Wilson Boulevard and 103rd Street. The Alexandria Development Corporation, which developed the Melvin Park neighborhood in 1970, donated the land for the park to the City in 1972. The tract remained a passive, undeveloped park until 1988, when at the request of City Councilman Clarence Suggs, the Recreation Department initiated plans to develop the site. After obtaining input from the local residents, an improvement project commenced in September 1990 that provided the present-day amenities, including a bridge over the drainage creek that extends through the park. A new playground was installed Fall 2022.
