About Myrtle Avenue Park
Myrtle Avenue Park is located on McCoy’s Creek in the Brooklyn section of Jacksonville. McCoy’s Creek, which has been channelized, forms the northern boundary of Brooklyn, separating it from the La Villa community. Miles Price, a Confederate veteran platted the Brooklyn neighborhood in 1868, and why he chose the name Brooklyn is a mystery. Cornerstone Riverside, Inc., a non-profit organization, was building seven HUD-funded town homes in the area and donated the adjacent land to the City in 1990, stipulating that it be used for recreational purposes only. HUD provided money for park equipment, and the City completed construction of the park in August 1991. A nice stand of trees surrounds the perimeter of the park.
