Come meet the men who dove the Maple Leaf Shipwreck on Saturday, October 7th, 10:00 am to noon at Mandarin Museum’s brand new Maple Leaf Gallery!
In 1864, the Union steamboat Maple Leaf was sunk by a Confederate mine just off Mandarin Point in the St. Johns River. For over 100 years, the wreckage remained forgotten and undisturbed.
In the 1980s, Dr. Keith Holland, local dentist and adventurer, along with a team of amateur and professional divers, located and excavated the underwater site. Their story of discovery, recovery, and preservation is fascinating!
This is an informal, conversational-style event. Drop in anytime within the two hours to chat with Dr. Holland and his team and view the Museum’s expanded Maple Leaf exhibit!
Admission to Meet the Divers and Mandarin Museum is FREE. Donations help support the Museum’s programming and operations.
