Celebrate National Read Across America Day on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Jacksonville Humane Society!
People of all ages are invited to visit JHS between 12-6:30pm to read out loud to the dogs and cats. From 3-6pm only, enjoy special activities including:

Did you know reading out loud is a wonderful form of enrichment for animals in shelters? It lowers their stress levels, helps them feel more calm in their kennels, and also helps them feel more comfortable around people. Reading to pets is also a pawesome way for kids to build their literacy skills and boost their reading confidence.
